Social Welfare and Livlihood



This working group aims to create robust livelihood opportunities and walfare of the marginalized, socially deprived classes, rural population and womens in order to enable them to earn more, and lead healthier lives. The portfolio of this group is to cover a number of integrated community-based interventions across India that will strive to improve rural incomes and livelihood through modern farming practices, small businesses, Use of Technology livestock and animal husbandry, market linkages, crafts, etc.

Projects


1. Study of economic and environmental impacts of Amarnath Yatra (a popular Hindu pilgrimage) in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir, India
Jammu and Kashmir is known as, “Paradise on Earth” because of its unmatchable scenic beauty, attractive landscapes, hence it is among the most important tourist destinations of the world. Apart from adventurous tourism, the state is also known for Religious tourism where every year millions of tourists visit to pay homage and seek blessings. Prominent among them is Amarnath yatra, which is an annual Hindu pilgrimage. It commences every year during the month of July to August. It is playing an important role in the economy of the state and helps in earning the livelihood of local people. Along with this it also affects the environment, positive or negative, either directly or indirectly. Therefore, the current project aims to understand the economic and environmental impacts of the pilgrimage.
